Wondering if Now Is the Right Time for Therapy?

Starting therapy can feel like a big step, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure. You might wonder if now is the right time or if what you’re feeling is “enough.” Many people carry stress, anxiety, or emotional weight longer than they need to — often just not knowing where to begin.

Dr. Amanda Gurny (PsyD) - owner

Welcome! I'm Amanda, founder of Women's Mind and Wellness.  As a psychologist and a mother, I understand the complex challenges women face at different stages of life. My approach is collaborative, supportive, and evidence-based, offering a safe and nurturing space for reflection, growth, and healing. Whether you are working through past trauma, managing daily stress and anxiety, or adjusting to new roles and expectations, and we're here to help.

Education & Training

Dr. Gurny earned her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from The Michigan School of Psychology in 2017, following her Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from the same institution in 2013. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Louisiana Tech University.

Halie Platte, m.A., TLLP

I’m a master’s-level humanistic psychologist, which means I don’t see you as something to diagnose or fix. I’m interested in who you are, how you came to be this version of yourself, and what your experiences have asked of you over time. The parts of you that feel overwhelming or hard to understand didn’t show up randomly. They formed in response to something, and they deserve to be met with earnest curiosity.

I work with people who feel a lot. People carrying trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts or histories, or personality-related struggles that can make your inner world feel intense or all over the place. You might catch yourself wondering why your reactions feel so strong, or why things hit as hard as they do. In our work, we take the time to sit with it and make sense of it without reducing it to a label.

The way I show up is relational and intuitive to you as an individual. I draw from CBT, DBT, IFS, and solution-focused work, utilizing these approaches flexibly so they fit your needs and feel useful for your life. I pay attention to the strategies you’ve used to survive, even the ones that now feel painful or exhausting, and we work to understand what they’ve been protecting before deciding what needs to shift.

I also carry an awareness of how relationships, especially within families, shape us over time. When a child has struggled within the mental health system, it can leave parents feeling isolated and quietly overwhelmed, while the child is navigating their own internal world that often goes unseen. I hold space for both of these experiences, without asking either to be minimized, so that the connection can begin to feel sustainable again.

In our work together, you’ll find a space that feels open and real. You don’t have to perform or organize yourself before you arrive. We can sit with what’s there, make sense of it at your pace, and begin to loosen what has felt stuck for a long time.
